T-MUSEUM

URBAN PUBLIC EXTENSION

This proposal for a municipal art museum is part of a master plan to redevelop the waterfront area in Turku, an ancient city in Finland. The project aims to enhance the overall connectivity of the area and create a close interaction between the activities generated by the museum and the surrounding urban environment. The approach taken is to view the entire city as a single space, symbolically removing boundaries.

By dividing the museum’s volume in accordance with the surrounding scale, multiple plazas are created, harmonizing with the greenways leading to Turku Castle Park and the ferry terminal. In this urban environment where old and new elements coexist, the block structure centered around the museum lobby is redefined to ensure access from all directions and active engagement with the surroundings.

The design establishes a vital relationship between outdoor and indoor spaces, creating multifunctional areas where various activities can unfold in succession. Exhibition rooms and workshop spaces maintain continuity with public areas and can be expanded as needed, offering diverse possibilities for building use.

URBAN PUBLIC EXTENSION

フィンランドの古都トゥルクの湾岸地域を再構築するマスタープランの中心的役割を担う市立美術館の計画案。
地域全体の回遊性を高め美術館で発生するアクティビティと都市とのの密接な連携を創出することを目的とし、都市全体を一つの空間として捉えて境界を象徴的に取り除くアプローチを取ることにした。
周囲のスケールに応じて美術館のボリュームを分割することにより複数の広場を生み、トゥルク城公園やフェリーターミナルへの緑道と調和させる。新旧の要素が共存する都市環境の中で、美術館ロビーを中心としたブロック構造を再構築し、あらゆる方向からのアクセスと周囲との積極的な対話を確保する。
屋外と屋内空間の間に重要な関係を築きつつ多機能なスペースを提供するスペースを生み出し、様々な活動が連鎖的に展開され、展示室やワークショップスペースが公共エリアまで連続性を保ちつつ必要に応じて拡張が可能であり、建物利用に多様な可能性をもたらす。
