MARBLING SPACE

In this competition, we were tasked with designing a building that integrates a city library, art museum, event center, and other rooms supporting the cultural center, all influencing each other.

In our project, the internal space is designed where the library, museum, cinema, events, and eateries programs blend together like a marbled pattern. The spatial configuration features three-dimensional circulation, where the library, symbolized by books, acts as a bridge connecting each program. Visitors encounter various programs as they walk around the library. By actively blending multiple programs, it is intended that people will naturally interact with each other through books and activities. This fosters the sharing and exchange of information, knowledge, and experiences, promoting intellectual creation and exchange. 
The primary spaces of the library are formed by square grid divisions. Instead of corridors connecting rooms, the library consists of a large space with a series of room cells. As these cells are of the same size, the layout is easily changeable, offering a high degree of freedom. This design method connects cells of a scale that people find comfortable, allowing control not only over the size of the space but also over the air, thermal, sound, and light environments at an appropriate human scale. 
In this space composed of cells without corridors, several activities interact and coexist, creating a chain of activities. In other words, people who do not typically have much contact with each other naturally blend through activities, resulting in free discovery and creative activities for visitors.
