C-SCHOOL

AN OPEN CURVE OF LEARNING FOR THE TOWN

The project site is located at the heart of Brezno, serving as a crucial connection between the historic district to the north and the newer residential area to the south.
Designed not merely as a school but as an open public facility, it also functions as a community center, fostering interaction among local residents. By leveraging the north-south circulation axis, the building integrates seamlessly into the urban fabric, creating a welcoming and accessible space for the entire community.
The concept for the designed School is based on clearly defined geometric building forms that harmoniously integrate with the surrounding environment. The scale of the building volumes is carefully designed to blend with the adjacent residential neighborhood, creating a balanced and inviting setting. The distinctive S-shaped layout of the ground floor plan defines two distinct courtyards with contrasting characteristics—one peaceful and culturally oriented toward the residential area, and the other dynamic and lively, oriented towards the vibrant riverside town center. At their intersection lies a central atrium, which serves as the primary communication hub and social heart of the school.
The ground floor is carefully planned with specialized classrooms designed to be accessible to the community beyond school hours. On the second floor, the southern half is designated as an educational space for primary and secondary grade students, divided by a courtyard, creating a clearly defined zone in a figure-of-eight layout, ensuring clarity and efficiency in the spatial configuration. Administrative functions and sports-related facilities are placed in the northern half, further enhancing the clarity of zoning. The building employs contemporary timber construction technology, utilizing GLT beams and columns as well as CLT panels, enhancing environmental sustainability while providing a warm, inviting atmosphere in tune with the local community.

AN OPEN CURVE OF LEARNING FOR THE TOWN
